UQHRA Mission:

Ownership/Opportunity

1. Stallion Auctions: UQHRA has been successful with its Beehive Stallion auction. The Beehive Stallion auction is the primary funding source for the Beehive Futurity. This futurity continue to have increased purse values year over year. The latest Stallion auction had over 70 donated breeding to select stallions like Brimmerton, Royal Shake Em, and Dean Miracle.

2. Horse Sales: Additional funding has been achieved through our yearly Utah Quarter Horse sale. The proceeds from this sale are based upon a percentage of the sale amounts and has had added visibility to the UQHRA.

Education

1. Mentoring Program: Billy Peterson has been instrumental in establishing a mentoring program that allows new horse owners the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the racing industry. This mentoring program has allowed the horse owners to fully understand the complicated cost/benefit relationship in racehorse ownership.

Youth

1. Youth day at the races: Through the advocacy of trainers in Utah, there is a willingness to integrate youth into Quarter Horses racing. Through hands on experience by select trainers, the youth movement has been ever increasing at the training and track facilities.

Legislative/Public Policy

1. Political Action Committee: Through the ongoing effort of Stu Sprouse, the UQHRA has continued to work through the Utah State Racing commission to allocate the yearly day race calendar, add additional races and provide funding for the various regulatory expenses, along with improving the image in a conservative environment.

Industry Relations

1. Equine Research: Through efforts of members, the UQHRA has been instrumental in assisting the ongoing HERDA research being conducted. UQHRA members have assisted ADM in ongoing racehorse nutrition research to improve the palatability, and absorption of key vitamins and nutritional supplements by racehorses.

2. Web site: The UQHRA is currently undergoing a thorough website review by an outside firm skilled in web technologies. This review will lead to a new, enhanced and operational website that will provide the stickiness to maintain membership and improve communications with owners, breeders, trainers, and race enthusiasts.
